The Lamspringe ownership,
inscribed on p1, is repeated here.
The twelfth-century text, in blue, red, green and black begins with computistical
information. It deals with the days of the week and the phases of the
moon. A fuller explanation of the medieval liturgical calendar, in particular
the meaning of technical words which appear on pp1-15, is given under
Keeping Time.
The information set out in circles explains how many nones, kalends and
ides there are in each month.
The columns at the bottom are two tables. The four columns on the left
explain how to calculate on which day of the week the first day of the
month will fall in a 28-year period. The seven columns on the right deal
with the age of the moon in any month during a complete epact-cycle of
19 years.
It should be noticed that this complex computistical information, also
found on p15, occupies the inner pages of a single bifolium, whose outer
sheets (p1 and 16) were originally blank.
