Context: Magnificat, Canticum Sancte Mariae
Iconography: The angel Gabriel places his hand on Mary's forehead: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the highest shall overshadow thee.you (Luke 1:35) He and Mary hold a book with the words Hail Mary full of grace the lord [is with you] Luke 1:28. Mary looks at Gabriel and points to the tag, the first words of the canticle, Magnfy. The figures stand in under two arches, the column between them resembling a palm tree.
