Psalm: 9:20
Iconography: The law-giver sits in a mandorla wearing a cowl. Lord appoint a law-giver over them. He is St Benedict, the monastic law-giver. In the Benedictine Rule the abbot represents Christ in the monastery, which is why he sits in a mandorla, a space usually reserved for God or Christ (Rule, chapter ii). Below, the psalmist addresses him and holds a sinner.
Art: This scene was intended to contain many more imploring sinners whose heads and bodies can be seen sketched to the left and right of the psalmist.Photographed against the light, a further head is visible under the blue area to the left of the psalmist (AP, pl.161)
