Psalm: 77:36
Iconography: Birds come tumbling out of the sky and four men pick them up to eat. And he rained on them flesh as dust: and feathered fowls as the sand of the sea. And they fell in the midst of their camp: round their tents. And they ate and were exceedingly filled. This refers to Numbers 11:31-32, when the Israelites complained that manna from heaven was not enough, so God sent them quails. St Augustine associated this flesh from the sky with the incarnation of Christ, in which case the four men represent the four Evangelists who received the Word and disseminated it (AP, 233; PL, xxxvi, 961)
