Translationthey were turned aside as a crooked bow./ They roused him to anger on their hills:/ and with their carved images they provoked him to jealousy./ God heard and scorned:/ and he reduced israhel greatly to nothing./ And he rejected the tabernacle of sylo:/ his tabernacle where he dwelt among men./ And he delivered their strength into captivity:/ and their beauty into the hands of the enemy./ And he ended his people under the sword:/ and scorned his inheritance./ Fire devoured their young men:/ and their virgins were not lamented./ Their priests fell by the sword:/ and their widows were not wept for./ And the lord was woken up as one sleeping:/ like a mighty man who has hung over with wine./ And he struck his enemies on the hind parts:/ he gave them an everlasting reproach./ And he rejected the tent of ioseph:/ and he did not choose the tribe of effraim./ |
