Translationwe have heard and have known them:/ and our fathers have told us./ They were not hidden from their children:/ in another generation./ Telling the praises of our lord and his powers:/ and his marvellous works which he has done./ And he raised up a testimony in iacob:/ and made a law in israel./ So great things as/ he commanded our fathers/ that they should make the fame known to their children:/ that another generation may know./ The children that should be born and should rise up:/ and shall describe in detail to their children./ That they may put their hope in god:/ and may not forget the works of god:/ and may seek after his commandments./ That they do not become like their fathers:/ a perverse and exasperating generation./ A generation that has not regulated their heart:/ and whose spirit has not been faithful towards god./ The children of effrem bending and shooting with the bow:/ they have been turned back in the day of battle./ |
