Translationand he has filled the hungry soul with good things./ Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death:/ bound in poverty and in iron./ Because they had exasperated the eloquent words of god:/ and had provoked the counsel of the most high./ And their heart was brought low with toil: they were weakened neither and there was none to help./ And they cried to the lord when they were troubled:/ and he rescued them from their sufferings./ And he brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death:/ and broke apart their chains./ Let the mercies of our lord acknowledge him:/ and his marvellous works to the children of men./ Because he has destroyed the gates of brass:/ and has broken in pieces [its] bolts of iron/ he has taken them up out of the way of their wickedness:/ for they were brought low on account of their injustices./ Their soul abhorred all food:/ and they drew close even to the gates of death./ And they cried to the lord when they were troubled:/ and he rescued them from their sufferings./ He sent his word and healed them:/ |
