Translationyour elders and they will say to you./ When the most high divided the people: when he separated the sons of adam./ He established the bounds of the people: just the same the number of the children of israhel./ but the lord’s portion is his people./ iacob the portion [literally ‘cord’] of his inheritance./ He came upon him in a desert land: in a place of horror and of desolate loneliness./ He lead him about and taught him: and guarded him as the apple of his eye./ Like an eagle enticing his young to fly: and flying above them ./ He unfolded his wings and took them: and he carried him on his shoulders./ The lord alone was his leader; and there was no strange god with him./ He set him upon high land: so that he might eat the fruits of the fields./ So that he might suck honey out of rock: and oil from the hardest rock./ Butter from the herd and milk from sheep: |
